Is my parent suitable to use ElderOn?

If your parent lives at home or in residential care, they are suitable to use ElderOn. The system can be used by the elderly who are still fully independent, because as we get older our physical abilities start to decline and we never know when an accident might happen. The system can also be used by elderly people who need a lot of help, as the detection of a fall and wandering off is fully automatic. Only in the event of an accident where the elderly person has to press the SOS button themselves is it necessary for the elderly person to do so.

How to introduce ElderOn to an elderly person?

The system allows people to age independently and with dignity, rather than being controlled. You need to present the advantages and disadvantages to the elderly person and to you, and have a straightforward discussion with them about the possibilities offered by the devices. The reassurance that the system brings to your relationship and the independence should outweigh any reservations and fears. But everything needs to be discussed openly beforehand.

Which device should I choose?

The two devices are not mutually exclusive, but complementary. The SOS device is primarily designed for daytime use, while at night, the bed occupancy sensor provides additional safety.

Do I need a WiFi network?

If you use the bed occupancy sensor, you need your own WiFi network. The SOS device does not need a WiFi network to operate as it contains a SIM card and runs via a GSM network. This also allows it to operate outside the home, virtually anywhere where a GSM signal is available. In case the device does not have a GSM connection, you will be notified via the mobile app, where you will also be informed of the last location of the elderly person.

What is the range of the SOS device?

The SOS device operates everywhere as it contains a SIM card and runs via a GSM network. This also allows it to operate outside the home, in the store, in the woods, at the doctor’s, virtually anywhere where a GSM signal is available. In case the device does not have a GSM connection, you will be notified via the mobile app, where you will also be informed of the last location of the elderly person.

Why do I have to pay for maintenance if I bought the devices?

Maintenance includes the monthly cost of the SIM card and GSM connection, similar to what you pay for your mobile phone. Additionally, the cost of the IT system we maintain to keep the system running smoothly is included in the maintenance price.

Can I monitor several elderly people?

Yes. There is no limit to the number of elderly people you can monitor. Our system is also used in retirement homes, where a large number of elderly people are being cared for.

How does the emergency contact system work?

You can enter up to 10 emergency contacts in the mobile app, and they must accept your invitation. In case of a call, the contacts are called one after the other until the first one answers.

What do the times in the bed occupancy sensor settings mean?

By setting the time of day and night, you set the time frames during which the sensor will operate. Most often, the night time is set according to the routine of the elderly person. You can additionally set the time of day if the elderly person has a daily rest habit. By setting both timers, you can also ensure 24-hour operation. As not every absence from bed is a dangerous situation, you can set how long after the detected absence you will receive a notification by setting the delay. If someone uses the toilet every night and it typically takes 5 minutes, you can set the delay time to 10 minutes. That way, you will only be informed if the elderly person is absent from bed for more than 10 minutes. If the elderly person returns to bed before the timer expires, it will be reset and you will not receive a notification. Or you can track all these events in the mobile app to see how many times and for how long a typical out-of-bed event occurs, as all events are logged.
